The Morning Dew Key Description

Name: Kin
Age: 23, but looks younger

Appearance: Kin is approximately 5'5" tall. He has a slight build; smooth, hairless skin over what most would call a slender, whipcord frame. Kin's heart-shaped face and small, pointed chin make his eyes appear even larger, and their colour, which ranges from a deep, midnight blue to a velvety indigo around the outer edge of the iris, makes them his most striking feature. His hair is a shaggy, honey-blonde mass streaked with gold and with the palest wheat-blonde, that often as not is hanging in his eyes rather than tucked neatly behind his ears.

Clothes: Kin wears dove-grey suede pants. Laced up the sides, exposing an eye-catching amount of skin, the pants flare wide from mid-calf, and the combination of a lack of underclothing and the snug fit leaves them moulded to his body like a second skin, leaving precious little to the imagination. While he has a matching pair of boots, he prefers to spend most of his time barefoot.

His shirt is of the finest cambric, sheer and delicate as spidersilk. Loose on his slender frame, it hangs open to mid-chest, never laced or tucked. Over this, Kin sometimes wears a long coat of smoke-grey suede, lined with black fur. Ankle length, the coat is slit up the sides and the back for riding, with slightly flared sleeves which are also slit for ease of movement.

Kin's single piece of jewellery is a teardrop-cut, pale blue diamond on a long gold chain around his neck.

Personality: Kin is quiet, calm, accepting. Many a world-weary Master has found great comfort in his tender, sensitive embrace. It often seems that whatever the whirlwind of activity surrounding him, Kin is the calm at the center of it all. Having grown up in the Palace, nothing that happens there holds much surprise for him. He takes things in stride. Kin is a believer in Fate. What will be, will be.

Which makes it all the more inexplicable that no matter whether his Master is tender or harsh, kind or cruel, gentle or brutal; whether the night was cold and mechanical or warm and loving; every morning Kin wakes crying. Not loud sobs or distressed wailing, but a simple, quiet fall of tears. His morning dew.

No one, not even Kin himself, knows exactly why; and no Master, nothing, has ever changed it in all the time he's been a Key.

Hobbies/Interests: Kin spends many hours doing yoga, both for the meditation and for the stretching and flexibility. He also likes to read, and does needlework; many of the tapestries decorating his walls being of his own design. He also spends long stretches of time staring off his balcony, watching the birds in flight and nesting on the cliffs. Many of their images make their way into his needlework.

Rooms: Kin's suite is high in a tower, built overlooking a cliff with the ocean crashing onto the rocks below. It has rough stone walls, framed with stout, cedar timbers. The cedar combines with the strong ocean breezes to keep his rooms scented and fresh. Several tapestries done by his own hand adorn the walls, scenes of faraway lands and fantastical creatures, always with a faceless figure, hidden in the shadows.

There is a large living area, with a massive fireplace and several seating areas; one next to a sturdy and rather overflowing bookcase, one with a small gaming table and a third in front of a large needlework frame.

The bedroom is mostly bare. In the center of the room is a raised dais, and hanging suspended from the ceiling on heavy chains is Kin's bed, giving it a soothing, swaying motion. Long, silken ties are wrapped around and woven through the chains, both for the soft, flowing decoration, and for handy access in the case of bondage games. Several wall sconces and a multitude of colourful pillows make up the room's only other decoration.

The west wall is dominated by a large balcony and its three stone benches piled high with cushions; with only cliffs and ocean for as far as the eye can see.

There is a small garderobe on the south wall, and a large copper tub for bathing sits next to the nearby small fireplace.

History: Kin's is a tale of betrayal, of tragedy. He was a prince, a seventh son, distant from the throne. In the midst of invasion and revolution, the monarchy was overthrown, his family executed. Kin, not yet seven years old, was saved that fate, spirited away by Royalists, in an attempt to rescue him and preserve the monarchy. Three months later, on the eve of his seventh birthday, his rescuers were betrayed. Knowing that Kin would be castrated, if not outright executed if he were recaptured, his rescuers instead chose to leave him at the Palace in secret. He was warned never to reveal his true identity, and who would expect to find the heir to the throne in such a place?

Most people barely remember the story of the Royalists who were captured and tortured, who insisted that the young prince had died, right up until their executions. And most people consider the stories that the heir somehow survives to this day to be no more than a fairy tale.
