The Carnival Key - Prologue

He was alone again. He laid his head back on the pillows and stared up the ceiling. No one to accompany him. No one to talk to. Like all the rest before, his previous Master had left him after spending only an hour with him.

Nashi sighed. 'I can't help it if I'm different.' Unfortunately, he was the only one who believed himself to be normal.

This time his master had tried to beat him and he had 'reacted.' Almost as if on instinct. Almost as if his body was not his to control. A white heat gathering inside his chest...

His thoughts drifted off, his eyelids beginning to feel heavier until at last sleep claimed him. He slept... and he dreamed.

'I can't see.' That was the first thought that came to Nashi's mind. Surprisingly, though, he felt calm. Slowly he got up, groping for any signs to tell him where "here" was. That is, until he realized that he could not move.

"Hello? Is anybody there?" Usually when he called out, one or two of the Palace's guardians would always come to his door. This time however, it was different.

No one came. No one would even acknowledge him. He was chained and no one would help him.

Suddenly, something or someone seemed to loom or in front of him.

A slap.

"No Master would stay long with you. The Palace has had fewer clients because of you. You have been a very BAD Key."

That was the voice of his nightmares. However, this time, he knew it was real and would never be a dream.

No dream would hurt like this.

Whipped ten... no, twenty... fifty times. Again undergoing the painful process of treating his wounds so that they would not leave any marks.

'No more. I want no more of this!'

Suddenly, there was light and he could see again. He was still in his room and there was his altar. But now, the coffin was open.
