The Amaryllis Key - Chapter 2

"Edaina"

By Soulless (dark_death88@yahoo.com)

'Edaina - After so many centuries, there still exists the clichéd idea of the soul mate principle. The idea that even before birth, two souls are fated to become one with each other in their first meet.'

"Mother, is that really true?" Faelan, a young child of 10, asked his mother, a willowy, raven-haired woman who seems to be in her early thirties.

Leia, his mother, looked up from the book she was reading to her child. "Well, you asked me why your brother has set out to the Palace – a place closer to our world than to the out worlders. I believe his exact words are : '- the call of my heart leads me to believe that my Edaina is in the vicinity of the Palace'."

"But, mother- That does not answer my question! Is the legend really true?"

Leia sighed. "I don't really know, my child. It is said that over a thousand years ago in Avallon, our ancestors were divided by different views on the evolution of our people. And amidst all this confusion, there was a prophecy that in the time of evolution and progress, two halves of a soul will be born separately. One made to lead and the other made to be the supporting pillar of decisions. Both are said to be the next great leaders and would reunite once more the people of Avallon. Because of this, the idea of an Edaina has become very popular to this day."

Leia looked down at her son after finishing her explanation, waiting for a reaction. But what she didn't expect was that her only other child would ask the same question that had brought fear of losing her sons into her heart when Lucais, Faelan's brother had asked the same question many years ago.

"Mother, do you think there's one soul in the out world made only just for me?"

Lucais grunted in frustration as he found himself lost in the Great Woods for the third time this day.

'Damnit! If I had only taken mother's advice to use the main road, I wouldn't be lost as I am now!'

Drained with confusion and fatigue, he finally sat down under a rather old looking oak tree. There, he continued to berate himself silently in his foolishness in seeking adventure.

At the Palace...

"Damnit Amryll! I told you not to be so spoiled in dealing with your Masters! Now, as always, I'll have to take the blame!"

"Sei, what's the difference in my manner or behavior? I'm just a fuck-toy to the lot of them!" A man, no older than 17 years of age and who is obviously one of the Palace Keys, looked up from his position on a loveseat to defend his 'behavior problems' from his accusing mentor... friend... whatever.

Sei, as luck would have it, decided at that moment to cross the distance between them to continue his ranting accusations, which undoubtedly caused their noses to slam a tad uncomfortably.

"Damnit, Sei!", exclaimed Amaryll, favoring his sore nose. "I just recovered from my last master's beatings! Couldn't you have been more careful?!"

"Sorry! But it really is your fault that they beat you. I mean if you had not insulted him and had apologized instead of making fun of the size of his dick, he wouldn't have beaten you. So, technically, it is still your fault. So, there!"

Satisfied that he'd said his piece properly, Sei moved to go out the door.

"I'm tired..."

"What?" Sei turned at the sound of a heartbroken voice.

"I'm just tired of all of this. Regardless of my appearance, I'm still human. I have feelings! Even if what they say is true and I'm one of a kind- 'my kind', that still doesn't mean that they can treat me this way! Like some... 'toy'! To be used anytime they want! Anytime they feel like it!"

Too deeply affected by his sudden outburst, Amaryll hadn't realize that he'd crossed the space between himself and Sei until he felt the heat of pity in the other's gaze.

"No! I'm not to be pitied! And I'm not crazy either!" Frenzied and too caught up in the moment, he took hold of Sei's wrist in an almost bone-breaking grip. "I have dreams, Sei! Dreams that there are other's like me! A place called Amaryllis... my namesake! Sei! If I could just get out of this hellhole you call The Palace! Sei-"

Emerald eyes widened in betrayal as he felt the telltale prick of a needle at the back of his neck. "Sei..."

'I'm sorry.'
