The Key of Avarice Description

Trained by Tenchi Kaze (tenchikaze@gmail.com)

Name: Ve

Age: Unknown (appears to be 17 by human standards, but his kind age at a slower rate, so nobody knows how old he actually is.)

Physical Description: By comparison with other Keys, Ve is quite plain looking. Though he is a non-human with a pair of those sexy sort of long pointed ears, he just doesn't have that sort of exotic flavor other Keys with the same feature seem to have. His hair is slightly messy and tannish brown, cropped to his chin, and his pointed ears poke out from between the slightly tangled strands. His height is nothing special (neither tall nor short), his build is somewhere in the middle, his skin is a bland peachy color, and his eyes are a dull shade of blue. He only wears the simplest outfits the Palace provides him with (a loose white tank top and black shorts is something one would probably see him wearing almost eighty percent of the time.) All in all, at first glance he seems to be the epitome of the "average Key." Also, he has no voice of his own at all. His kind are without vocal chords, and thus cannot make any sort of sound come from their throats at all. At least not naturally.

Power: All members of Ve's species have a special power that helps them overcome their lack of vocal chords, and that is to steal another being's voice. The specifics of the power are not certain, but once a person begins speaking to one of them, they seem to be able to completely suck away any ability that person's vocal chords have. Then they use the essence of that ability to project the person's voice
through their own mouth. They have the ability to keep as many voices as they want inside, though, normally, they only keep a single being's voice and use that for their entire lives. But Ve, well...

Personality: Ve seems to have some sort of obsession with sound, especially voices. He has almost no appreciation for anything visual (hence his not caring about his appearance more than is necessary) and instead focuses on the auditory. As such, he loves to use his power over the voices of others to its full extent. If he meets someone he hasn't met before, he will take their voice from them the second they begin talking. He doesn't discriminate and will take the voice of anyone, young or old, man or woman, weak or strong. The more voices he gathers, the more voices he wants. He seems to believe that if he collects all the voices in the world, he will be happy. This is where his name of "The Avarice Key" comes from. His greed is not for money or for material goods, but for sound. He remembers every single voice he has ever taken thanks to a fantastic memory, and delights in using a great deal of those voices every day. With the voices of good singers, he will do karaoke to his vast music collection. With quirky or funny voices, he will do stand-up comedy that no one ever listens to (he's horrible at making up jokes.) With deep voices, he likes to sneak up on pages that come to clean up his room and scare the bejeezus out of them.

All in all, he is rather self-centered, not caring about anything other than himself and the voices he gathers. If it doesn't involve himself or sound, it doesn't matter to him. Because of this, there are very few in the Palace who can stand him. No one will talk to him without the use of pen and paper for fear of losing their voice to the greedy creature, and it is easier for most to just plain avoid him all together whenever possible.

Background: Ve's greed for voices and showing them off had always irritated the other members of his community, and finally, one day, none of them could stand him anymore. A few members of the community appealed to the group elder, and a unanimous decision was made: Get! Rid! Of! Ve! Now! And so, Ve was kicked out of the community for good and sold to the Palace where he would never bother them again. Ve didn't care, though. When he got the details on his new position as a Key (and had stolen the voice of the person who told him,) he was thrilled. With a variety of Masters and servants coming and going, it would simply mean new voices for him to take. However, he soon was disappointed to find out that the Palace had been given specific instructions to not let anyone speak a
word to him. Those who wished to have a word with him would have to do so by use of writing down what they wanted to say on a card and letting Ve read it. He soon found ways around this, though, kicking a few pages to get exclamations of pain from them and making sure that the sex he gave to Masters was good enough to get a vocal response. Also, he did get the occasional stupid Master or forgetful servant who actually started to talk to him, and those turned out to be easy steals for him. Thanks to Ve, the Palace had to lay of several pages and pay large refund sums to Masters who had lost their voices to him. Recently, he has been facing the possibility of getting thrown out of the Palace if  he continues his behavior.

Room: The entire room is, of course, soundproof to outside noises. The floor is circular and there are no "ceilings" or "walls" to speak of since from the floor up, the shape of the room is like three quarters of a sphere. The main colors in the room are white and dark gray, though there is an option to have the lights be different colors to take away from the rather boring color scheme somewhat. On the side opposite from the door is the large canopy bed. On the side furthest left of the door is a huge shelf that nearly reaches the top of the room, filled to the brim with CDs, records, and audio cassettes, and beside the shelf are several different devices to play them with, as well as one half of the room's huge speaker system. The shelf has a rolling ladder attached so that Ve can reach any of the albums he wants. On the side furthest right of the door is the other half of the speaker system that is connected to the different music players. On this side is also a microphone which Ve makes liberal use of. At the very top of the sphere is another speaker, completing the room's system so that the sound coming from it fills the whole room.
