The Scrying Key Description

Trained by Graylocke (graylocke@hotmail.com)

NAMES: The Scrying Key / Cir Brea

AGE: Apparently 16. Really ??

APPEARANCE: The actual physical appearance of the Scrying Key is unknown to most people. Within his chambers he can take on any appearance he chooses to as explained under "HOME". The appearances most often taken on are:

  • A young, well-built blond man in a tight fitting blue jeans and a white sleeveless shirt.
  • An old man in tattered brown robes with straggling white hair.
  • A small black kitten (when he wants to be hidden).

His real appearance is that of a young boy; pale, short and naked. His hair is long: uncut and white. His body is thin and emaciated, the skin taut against his frail skeleton, and connected via a series of cables and tubes to a capsule in a giant machine that fills his room. He is blind and deaf and unable to physically communicate other than through the machinery.

HOME: The machine that is his room in the Palace contains a life support system and also has sensory equipment that is tapped directly to him, replacing his blind eyes and deaf ears. The room-machine responds to his thought, making it practically an extension of himself. It is outfitted with a complex holographic system that enables him to create any scene he wishes, placing himself anywhere with in it, as anything.

All the holographic images are also solid to the viewer, and the room can seemingly extend infinitely, even though it is (in reality) only a 10-foot grey mechanical cube. Noone can remember before he lived in the Palace, so noone knows where he was from before that.

EMPLOYMENT: Obviously, Cir now works for the Palace. He is a popular Key with many Masters. Some of which, never discovered that everything was just an illusion. He also helps the Page, and sometimes other Keys, with his Sight. The machinery he is connected to contains an extensive database of everything he has experienced as well as the ability to tap into other Systems in Other Places. These "Systems" (his own word) seemingly don't have to be mechanical. Sometimes they are of a more occult nature.

The amazing technology/magic required to build this must have been phenomenal, but all records of the building and who built it have been erased, so Cir has no idea of who made it, him or how. The other problem is that the Scrying does not always work, is not always clear, and very rarely precise. It also gives no guarantees as to the timing or location of the data collected. Most of the time, the data is displayed by the room as if it were the location being Scryed.

RELATIONSHIPS: Given his circumstances, Cir has very little time to build relationships with many people, other than his Masters. One Master he remembers (somewhat painfully) as family - Iason. The man had not wanted a Key so much as a son and had been given Cir as the "magical" Scrying Key. They had spent a lot of time together doing Father/Son activities such as football and hiking, Cir being able to provide anything.

True, they had also made love on several occasions, their relationship blurring many boundaries. Cir wanted to be honest with him and so one day showed him exactly who he was. Iason didn't seem to be phased at the time, but after he left, Cir never saw him again. Even Scrying didn't seem to work. Cir has never since shown his true self to anyone, except the Palace Page.

The Palace Page does use the Scrying Key to help locate and understand some of the other Keys and sometimes the Masters and other people related to them. It seems that this practice has been going on since the Palace was instituted.

PERSONALITY: Cir doesn't trust easily. However he is loyal to the Palace and the Page, and (by proxy) his Masters. His manner, in reality, is somewhat like that of a machine. Whether because he has been connected to one for so long, or because he has locked his heart away after having it wounded by Iason many, many years ago. Still, he does enjoy the company, and often Scries other Keys who have been freed... Wondering if somehow he could find a way to live for himself, rather than others.
